An ancient Ligurian village among green and olive trees, where time is slow and the streets smell of nature, between stone and sun. Come and have a chat at the bar, enjoy the laughter of the children in the square and become part of the place: smile, you’re at home. You are at the Relais del Maro.
The Relais del Maro is an Albergo Diffuso consisting of 14 rooms distributed in 3 historic buildings located in the village of Borgomaro, ideal for your holidays just a few kilometres from the Ligurian Sea.
We want to invite you to get to know our country and spend your holiday in the heart of authentic Liguria by immersing yourself into the relaxed, slow, typical life of a place where everyone knows each other.
Reception and Breakfast Room
On the ground floor of the Casa Madre, there are the Reception – where you will be welcomed and assisted for all your needs – and the breakfast room: it is here that our delicious breakfast with typical Ligurian and km 0 products is served every day and in the afternoon takes place our famous five o’clock tea with homemade cakes and biscuits plus a selection of about 30 different types of pure tea, blends and herbal teas. Every morning our staff places on the table the best regional and homemade products for the breakfast of our guests, selected and prepared with love and experience: our idea is that if the coffee is good, the cake is homemade and the service smiles at you, the day starts well straight away!
In our buffet, you will find typical products from the towns of the Impero Valley, from biscuits, focaccia and pizza by “Zia Bruna” to the homemade specialities that we prepare and bake personally every day, such as bread, cakes and brioches. You can also enjoy a precious selection of products from different Italian regional traditions, such as cheese and cold meats from lower Piedmont and beyond. All the food of our famous breakfast boast extreme attention to naturalness and authenticity: to start your days in Borgomaro on the right foot!
Finally, there is a wide selection of dishes for celiacs and food intolerants, recipes from the best vegetarian and vegan cuisine and also special kids menus.
Garden and swimming pool
At the Relais, you can take advantage of a wonderful garden and a large swimming pool for a truly relaxing break: both located in a quiet position, but close to the town centre, these spaces will allow you to enjoy the “air baths” that were much loved by our grandparents in the past. Pure air, the scent of aromatic herbs, a bright green lawn and the swimming pool where to enjoy a whirlpool bath. The perfect time to open that book that has remained too long in the drawer. Or more – why not? – complete the creation of a novel or screenplay in the tranquillity of the Ligurian countryside.
Borgomaro will certainly not lack inspiration. As well as relaxation: leave the clock at home, here time is marked by the bells of the village church (but not in the night to leave your dreams peaceful). And at night enjoy the sound of the river, the singing frogs and the immensity of a sky full of stars.

Breakfast made with Ligurian, regional and km 0 specialities
Our breakfast is characterized by the search for quality products and specialities from the area, at km 0. Every day the typical products of the villages of the Impero Valley will alternate in the buffet: the much-loved Ligurian focaccia and pizza by the “Zia Bruna”, famous throughout all Borgomaro, the cakes prepared every day by Mamma Piera or by our pastry chef Patrizio, from whose expert hands also croissants and various types of bread take shape.
We have selected cheese and cured meats by visiting local and lower Piedmont companies and periodically we will offer you typical products from the other Italian regions: Robiola di Roccaverano and Testun Piemontese, or the Toma dello Spazzacamino from Val Vigezzo, the raw ham or cooked salami that will make the table at your awakening truly irresistible. Our pride: the artisan cured meats from the Salumeria Giacobbe delicatessen: their cooked ham and their salamis are really mouth-watering. Seeing is believing!
Natural & organic
One of our points of pride is the great attention to natural and organic products: jams without preservatives and prepared with only fruit and lemon (also produced in Liguria), organic juices without sugars or additives, 100% natural yoghurt and many other products that prove our attention to your well-being and genuine food.
Suitable for celiacs, intolerant, vegans and vegetarians
Those suffering from ailments such as celiac disease and intolerances can enjoy a nice and healthy breakfast too at the Relais, for part of the products in our breakfast are gluten-free and lactose-free.
In addition, we have also thought of those who follow a vegetarian and vegan diet, with a selection of delicious products free of meat or ingredients of animal origin. Remember to indicate your dietary needs when booking.
Five o’clock tea
An iconic “British” habit now appreciated all over the world and that we wanted to bring to Liguria: every day from 17.00 to 19.00 you can taste free homemade cakes and biscuits accompanied by the selection of our coffees and more than 30 types of different teas.
If after our rich breakfast you still have space for one of the delicacies prepared by Mamma Piera, you can relax in the shade of our garden and enjoy typical and light dishes such as tasty mixed salads, trofie with pesto, ham and melon, pizzas and other tasty typical plates.
What about dinner?
Liguria is known for its simple and tasty gastronomy, full of unique dishes, all enriched with the accent of the delicate Taggiasca extra virgin olive oil: explore local cuisine thanks to the many restaurants in the area and their delicacies such as the famous ravioli di borragine or the coniglio alla Ligure (Ligurian rabbit).
In the valley and in Imperia there are many restaurants that are worth a visit, and we will be happy to give you all the information about it: don’t forget to ask!
We have for you suggestions for every ligurian town; meanwhile, here are some useful tips in case you want to have dinner in Borgomaro:
• Censin da Bea restaurant
You can find this typical country restaurant directly on the river. The environment is rustic but pleasant. At affordable prices, it offers you a wide range of typical dishes (www.ristorantecensindabea.com).
• Pizzeria Le Logge
Not just pizza but also grills and desserts: Pizzeria Le Logge attracts customers also from outside Imperia for the goodness of their pizza dough and the freshness of the ingredients. And the pizzas come definitely in a generous size.
• Cà Sottane farmhouse
A new entry in the food panorama of the valley that in a short time has won the favour of local customers and tourists thanks to the skill and sympathy of Brigitte and Laura. Cà Sottane is a real farm: it uses its own products or strictly natural products from producers in the area. Here you will feel like family, in a relaxed atmosphere with traditional Ligurian and Provençal dishes cooked to art (www.agriturismocasottane.it)
