Food and Wine
An albergo diffuso in Liguria, an experience made of food and culture as well

Your holiday is just half-complete if you don’t taste the excellent dishes of the local cuisine.
At the Relais del Maro, from day one we have been committed to working closely with the small producers of the Ligurian and Piedmontese territories to make our guests aware of all the local products, even those that are so niche and authentic that can be found only where they are created.
What does this mean in practice?
Breakfast made with Ligurian, regional and km 0 specialities
Our breakfast is characterized by the search for quality products and specialities from the area, at km 0. Every day will alternate on the buffet the typical products of the villages of the Impero Valley: the much-loved Ligurian focaccia and pizza by the “Zia Bruna”, famous throughout all Borgomaro and the cakes prepared every day by Mamma Piera, from whose expert hands also croissants and various types of bread take shape.

Typical products
We have selected cheese and cured meats by visiting one by one local and lower Piedmont companies and periodically we will offer you typical products from the other Italian regions: Robiola di Roccaverano and Testun Piemontese, or the Toma dello Spazzacamino from Val Vigezzo, the raw ham or cooked salami that will make the table at your awakening truly irresistible. Our pride: the artisan cured meats from the Salumeria Giacobbe delicatessen: their cooked ham and their salamis are really mouth-watering. Seeing is believing!
Natural & organic
One of our points of pride is the great attention to natural and organic products: jams without preservatives and prepared with only fruit and lemon (also produced in Liguria), organic juices without sugars or additives, 100% natural yoghurt and many other products that prove our attention to your well-being and genuine food.
Products uitable for celiacs, intolerant, vegans and vegetarians
Those suffering from ailments such as celiac disease and intolerances can enjoy a nice and healthy breakfast too at the Relais: part of the products in our breakfast are gluten-free and lactose-free.
In addition, we have also thought of those who follow a vegetarian and vegan diet, with a selection of delicious products free of meat or ingredients of animal origin. Remember to indicate your dietary needs when booking.
Five o’clock tea
An iconic “British” habit now appreciated all over the world and that we wanted to bring to Liguria: every day from 17.00 to 19.00 you can taste free homemade cakes and biscuits accompanied by the selection of our coffees and more than 30 types of different teas.
Light lunch
If after our rich breakfast you still have space for one of the delicacies prepared by Mamma Piera, you can relax in the shade of our garden and enjoy typical and light dishes such as tasty mixed salads, trofie with pesto, ham and melon, pizzas and other tasty typical plates.
Aperitif
At Relais del Maro it is always time to enjoy a good drink.
Whether you are a wine or cocktails lover, you will find your cup of tea: a very rich wines and gins list selected by our sommelier Elena and one of the best Aperol Spritz will make your day perfect.
And in the afternoon, during the happy hour all drinks will be accompanied by our delicious nibbles
And what about dinner?
What about the dinner? One of the main purposes of an albergo diffuso is to collaborate with the realities of the town and its surroundings. And it is, therefore, our choice not to serve dinner so you can discover what the town of Borgomaro and the rest of our valley have to offer.
These are the restaurants closest to us. A few kilometres away is Imperia, a city that offers a truly varied choice of good quality restaurants. Upon your arrival, we will give you detailed information material.
Censin da Bea – Via A. Guglieri 14 – Borgomaro
If I say Censin, everyone responds party! Censin da Bea (literally Vincenzino del Fiume, Vincenzino of the River) is very famous in our valley: a village restaurant with a unique terrace overlooking the stream. Rustic, homemade, goliardic, their tasting menu is the only option. But be warned: the food here flows freely, so keep yourself light before having dinner in this super-vintage antique oil mill. And if you like liqueurs, don’t be shy: Marco will be proud to show you his selection of spirits and grappas!
Pizzeria Le Logge – Piazza San Giovanni 2bis – Borgomaro
A simple menu of pizza, grills, salads, and desserts, but it also attracts customers from outside Imperia for the goodness of the dough and the freshest ingredients…and watch out for the pizza size! The pizzas are so huge that Milena will offer you the opportunity to put two different flavours on one! Availability, courtesy, and kindness of the staff will remain forever in your memories, as well as the beautiful location whose terrace overlooks the church of Borgomaro!
Agriturismo Cà Sottane – Via Marconi, Borgomaro
A real farm, which uses its own products or natural-only products from local companies. At Cà Sottane you will feel like family, in a relaxed atmosphere with traditional Ligurian and Provençal dishes cooked in a simple but genuine way. Brigitte and Laura will open the doors of their restaurant and welcome you as friends who host you at their home…a place made of memories, passion for cooking, traditions…and love for animals!
Trattoria Nazionale – Via 4 Novembre 37 – Chiusavecchia
At Marco and Selma’s, the perfect evening is guaranteed. A very pleasant environment, both in summer, on the splendid typical town square, and in winter with their always-on fireplace. The menu offers light but excellent appetizers, their legendary homemade tagliatelle, the inimitable ravioli, a selection of desserts…and the wine, always good. A name that has meant quality food for many years. Tradition and excellence at the highest levels for very honest prices.
Trattoria La Tavernaccia – Via IV Novembre 34– Chiusavecchia
Melania returned after some time to her home town and did so in the company of an excellent chef who decided with her to revive this historic village tavern. You can enjoy traditional dishes as well as creative fish-based delicacies.
La Remissa – Strada Provinciale 29, Torria – Chiusanico
In La Remissa you will find all the typical recipes of western Liguria and its hinterlands such as fresh pasta and rabbit, but the local speciality is snails! During the summer there is a large dehors with a breath-taking view that will make your meals unforgettable.
La Locandiera – Via Roma, 33 – Lucinasco
A small tavern, where two passionate brothers will welcome you with great warmth. Friendliness, cleanliness, but above all the great quality of local products such as wine and (obviously, in the land of oil) 0 km extra virgin olive oil! Plus, if you ask for vegetables, they are picked fresh from their garden to serve!
