Mainstream? Never! Actually, I know more people who have not yet tried it! What am I talking about? Of one of those perfect days where the sky shines a clear blue, the sun bounces off the flowers lighting them, and the sound of the sea accompanies the beating of your heart…is this too overemotional? I swear it’s not a dream, it’s just a day on the most beautiful cycle path in Europe, the one that runs on our Riviera between San Lorenzo and Ospedaletti. It was created on the disused railway line, which now has been modernized and relocated, and today it offers all the lovers of outdoor open views of the sea and dream scents. The breath-taking view is that of the green Ligurian promontories, the Mediterranean scrub with its shades and the blue of the sea.
How to organize a cycling trip here?
To set up this magical day you will only need to go with a document to any of the Nolo Bici points – bicycles and rickshaws for rent that you will find along the track in the towns of San Lorenzo al Mare, Santo Stefano al Mare, Arma di Taggia and Sanremo.
My advice is to bring with you just a backpack with inside a little water, a bathing suit, and a towel.
You do not need a packed lunch, because you can have delicious food in one of the many sea view bars/restaurants that you will find both on the track and in the small seaside villages around. Follow the cycling track for the number of kilometres you want, starting from any point you prefer, always at the pace that best suits you! Take a day just for yourself, to take a deep breath of fresh air and relax. On very hot days surely you won’t resist the idea of taking a nice swim in the sea before getting back on your bike for the return!
And maybe, you might be among the first lucky ones to cycle the new stretch from San Lorenzo to Imperia that should be ready for summer 2022.
